Explore the enthralling world of Japan Supernatural at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and enjoy our Japan Supernatural dining package, with flavours and dishes inspired by the extraordinary exhibition's stories and art. 


The exhibition reveals three centuries of folklore and fantasy in Japanese art. You can explore the wildly imaginative realm through more than 180 works from historical master Katsushika Hokusai through to contemporary superstar Takashi Murakami. 


Step into the shadows and come face-to-face with an astonishing array of ghosts, goblins and mischievous shapeshifters, inhabiting an exhibition like no other. See Japan’s folklore brought to life in magnificent paintings, large-scale installations, miniature carvings and humorous illustrations, and explore the vibrant ukiyo-e woodblock prints that define the tradition of the supernatural in Japanese art.


Head Chef Tim Brindley’s wonderful Japanese-inspired creations nod to the wonderful and colourful world of Japan Supernatural.


To complement our Japanese Supernatural inspired menu, we are offering a selection of classic sakés, as well as Yuzushu (a gloriously refreshing citrus liqueur) and Umeshu (a fabulous sweet-and-sour liqueur made with the lovely plum-like Ume fruit). Our restaurant manager and bartender extraordinaire Sammy has created a selection of Japan-inspired cocktails for a delicious start, or finish, to a long lunch after exploring the Gallery.
